Powers of attorney and UK documents for Spain

Most Spanish procedures can be handled without travelling, provided the documents from the UK are right the first time. I tell you exactly what to sign, where and how.

A Spanish power of attorney signed in the UK

I draft the power of attorney in a bilingual Spanish and English format, limited to what your matter requires. You sign it before a notary public in the UK: in England, Wales and Northern Ireland a notary public, and in Scotland a solicitor who is also a notary public. The signature is then apostilled by the FCDO Legalisation Office, and the document is posted to Spain.

Other UK documents

Death and birth certificates, wills, grants of probate or confirmation, police certificates and court orders usually need an apostille and, unless bilingual, a sworn translation into Spanish. I check what each Spanish authority requires before you order anything, to avoid paying twice.
