abogado.uk Spanish law, for clients in Britain

Who you are dealing with

You are about to send money to a lawyer in another country whom you have never met. Here is everything you need to check that we are who we say we are.

Francisco Sánchez, Spanish abogado
Francisco Sánchez
Abogado · Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Sevilla nº 16.386

Who handles your matter

Every matter is handled personally by a lawyer qualified and registered in Spain: admitted to a Spanish Colegio de Abogados, bound by Spanish professional conduct rules, and covered by Spanish professional indemnity insurance. Not a paralegal, not a gestoría, and not an agent who sends the work elsewhere.

You are told who that lawyer is, with their número de colegiado, in your engagement letter — before you pay us anything. That is so you can check them with their Colegio rather than take our word for it.

The practice

ABOGADO LIMITED was established in 2024 to do one thing: handle the Spanish side of matters for people who live in the United Kingdom. The office is in Seville, Spain, which is deliberate — everything in a Spanish matter has to be done in Spain, by someone qualified in Spain.

The practice is run by Francisco Sánchez, abogado of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Sevilla, número de colegiado 16.386. He holds both Spanish and British nationality and spent fifteen years living and working in the United Kingdom, which is why everything here is in English and why nobody will ever send you a Spanish document without explaining it. His own practice is Spanish immigration and nationality law and international succession.

What we are not

Not a firm of solicitors, and not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or by either of the other UK law societies. We advise on Spanish law. We do not conduct litigation in the UK, do not undertake UK conveyancing, and do not apply for a grant of probate or confirmation. Where your matter needs a UK lawyer as well, we say so and work alongside yours.

We are also not an agency, a relocation service or an introducer. The person who advises you is the person named above.

How to check all of this

Write to the Colegio de Abogados of the lawyer handling your matter, quote their número de colegiado, and ask them to confirm it and that the lawyer is in good standing. They answer, and they answer in English. For the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Sevilla, número de colegiado 16.386 is Francisco Sánchez.

We also appear on the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's list of English-speaking lawyers in Spain. The FCDO does not endorse or recommend the providers on its lists and we are not affiliated with it — but inclusion means qualification and ability to work in English have been checked by someone other than us, and rechecked every year.

And you can look up ABOGADO LIMITED, company number 15407875, at Companies House.

Why a British company and a Spanish lawyer

ABOGADO LIMITED is the English company you contract with and which invoices you, so that you are dealing with a UK business under UK consumer law, in pounds. The legal advice itself is given by a Spanish abogado, under Spanish professional rules and Spanish professional indemnity insurance. That split is deliberate and it is written into our terms rather than left to be inferred.

It also means we do not operate a client account in the United Kingdom, and do not want one. How money moves is set out here.
